A site that I hunted many times, and made many recoveries from, yielded this very nice 1837 Half Dime. I got to the site one day to hunt a certain area and saw that the owner had dug a trench from the well to the residence in an area that I detected more times then I can count, but, turned soil meant the possibility of bringing deeper items closer to the surface. So I started my search with that turned soil and almost immediately, the soft, solid signal that I was receiving helped uncover this dime less then one inch under the grounds surface. The silver 3 Cent piece pictured below was also recovered in this trench line.
Here you can clearly see the Extra Fine details.
...and the reverse.
One of my favorite coin recoveries is this 1830/29 overstrike error Bust Dime. In the coin collectors world, this is a "key date" find. This was recovered a number of years ago on a rainy Thanksgiving Day, 3" below the surface of the edge of a gravel driveway.
A close up view of the date from the above dime reveals a clear 'doubling' of the number 8, and a die crack on the 8 at the 10 O'Clock position. This coin has been professionally graded by ANACS at EF-40 condition.
This is a 1796 LIBERTY CAP CENT, 1 of 109,285 minted for circulation. It was recovered in a corn field, about a mile from the nearest road access. This was found in 1996. To this day, respectable artifacts are still infrequently recovered from this field.
This 1805 Large Cent was another cornfield recovery. Cornfields can be devastating to copper coins due to fertilizers used over the years. Fertilizers can actually deteriorate a copper to an unidentifiable disk. Fortunately, the primary details of this coin stand out quite nicely.

This 1859 Indian Head Cent is in exceptional condition considering it was dug from a depth of 6". I recovered this when I was field testing my detector in my front yard.
1927 Standing Liberty Quarter in exceptional shape for a dug coin.

Some of the things that I like to see, in the dark dirt shining back at me. One page of a 3 page Standing Liberty Quarter Coin Book. Most slots are filled in all three pages, all with dug coins.
